Support and service

Do you need advice on your device?

Measuring instruments are usually quite complex devices, and although manufacturers strive for their maximum durability and trouble-free operation, it may happen that your device does not work as it should.
Of course, it can malfunction.
You can first go through the solutions to the most common problems or send it straight to the service.

the most common problems

Before you send the device for repair, try to go through the following few simple steps, which surprisingly often lead to a successful result.

When applying the following points, always refer to the instructions in the operating instructions of the respective device and observe all safety recommendations and regulations.
E.g.
Before removing the battery compartment lid or fuse, disconnect the device from the measurement object, from the power supply and switch it off.

Check the external status of the instrument

Check the device and its components, wires, test leads, accessories, etc.
visibly damaged or dirty.

In case of damage, do not use the device and send it for service.

More details can usually be found in the manual of the device in the SAFETY WARNINGS section.

The device cannot be switched on

Make sure that the plug of the power cord is inserted in the socket (or in the connector of the appliance if the power cord is removable) and that the voltage in the socket is of the correct value.

For a battery-operated tool, check that the batteries are inserted with the correct polarity, that the batteries are charged and that there are no corroded contacts in the device.

For appliances with user-replaceable fuses, check that the fuses are not broken, and if they break, replace them with new ones of the same type and rating.
If it breaks again, the device is probably damaged.
Send it to the service center for repair.

Some devices may have an internal fuse, e.g.
against overheating.
Try disconnecting the device from all measured circuits, turning it off and turning it on again after about 10 minutes.

The device can be turned on, but it does not work properly
  • If you have moved the machine from a cold environment to a warmer one, moisture may have condensed in the machine.
  • Switch off the appliance and wait approx. 15 minutes for the evaporation temperature to equalise before switching the appliance on again.
  • Make sure that the instrument is turned on and set to the correct measurement mode.
  • Check that you have the correct accessories, test leads, etc. used.
and is connected to the correct sockets or connectors.
  • Try taking a measurement on another circuit for which you know the value you should measure.
  • Try turning the device off, leaving it off for a few minutes and turning it back on.
  • In the case of a battery-powered device, you may also need to remove the batteries.
  • If the machine allows it, follow the instruction manual for the specific device to set it to the default state (RESET).
  • Depending on the type of device, it may be advisable to save the measurement data beforehand.
The REVEXprofi (II) and REVEXplus USB device does not communicate with a PC

The driver may not be installed correctly.

In Windows, open Device Manager and check if there is an exclamation mark next to your REVEX device.

If so, follow the instructions.

You have an RS232 port on your device and a USB port on your computer

Most new PCs and laptops do not have an RS232 interface, but only USB.
In this case, it is necessary to use an RS232-USB converter.

ILLKO does not offer these converters due to their possible incompatibility with your PC.
You can buy a converter e.g.
at your IT supplier. We strongly recommend that you test whether the communication between the device and your PC via the converter works flawlessly before purchasing the RS232-USB converter!
It is best to do so directly from your computer supplier.

According to experience, converters equipped with a USB chip from FTDI usually work well, e.g.

www.asix.cz or www.delock.de. (We do not respond to any malfunction of the links provided)

Nevertheless, in any case, we strongly recommend testing the function even before buying converters with an FTDI chip.

The fact that some RS232-USB converters do not work properly is not a problem of the PC, software or your device, but of the mutual (in)compatibility of the PC-converter-device chain.

If the fault persists, contact your nearest service department and provide them with the information on the information plate: device type, model, serial number, if applicable, and what fault the device shows.
It is possible that you will be able to eliminate the defect thanks to this consultation.

If you have come this far and none of the above tips helped, carefully pack the device, including accessories, test leads, tips, etc.
and send it to the nearest service centre or directly to our company. If it is a device that allows the measurement results to be stored in memory and later downloaded, then before sending it for service Download the data from your device!
